Today we made our way to Newport, Rhode Island. Along the way we drove through a lot of scenic roads and bridges. Taking pictures from the car never does the view any justice, but here are a few!

Newport, Rhode Island
Upon arriving in Rhode Island, we had no idea what to expect. We quickly realized a calm day of pulling off the road and walking some trails was going to be a little more than just that. My research showed a scenic cliff walk that looked enticing so with the GPS set to take us there we somehow missed our turn. Probably because we were gawking out the window at the huge mansions, mysterious gates, and fancy architecture. Eventually we made our way downtown, parking was insanity but we finally picked a spot and set off to find this “cliff walk.”
Over a mile walk later, reparking the car, and some big sighs later we started the walk at Easton Beach.

Cliff Walk Part 1
The start of the walk was really easy, paved cement and a guard rail with awesome views of the water.

40 steps
Our first “challenging” spot was the 40 steps. And by challenging I mean the lady in front of me did it with a dress and flip flops on so I knew I had no excuse..

After a mile of walking there was an exit with visible parking so we went off the path to go get our car and move it closer. This would allow us to do the rest of the walk without exceeding our “2 hr parking limit.” On our walk through town we saw some beautiful buildings associated with the University and some cute houses. Before getting to the car though, we were dying of thirst so we stopped to get a water and slurpee.

Cliff Walk Part 2
The second half was a little harder. It was hotter, bumpier, and the clif bars we had for lunch (HA, “clif” bars) were starting to wear off. But the views were amazing and worth it!

Personally the first spot where I was feeling that “nope, not happening” feeling was this little cave. I peaked in and didn’t see an end and it was too dark to see my feet. But we went through anyway!

Turns out it was about 20 yards and not scary at all…
Next Exit 2 miles
This was about the time we saw a sign that said next exit 2 miles. We were reasonably tired but we didn’t want to stop yet so we decided to keep going. I’m just going to say whoever measured that distance is full of ______.

The exit!!!!
We finally saw the exit and although we enjoyed the walk we were ready to get back to the hotel. 4 hours in the sun had taken its toll. Nick took out his phone and looked up how far the walk back to the car was. (Moment of silence for our feet) 2.1 miles..
We set off in a quiet stroll to the car. Seeing more of the city close up and out of the car was cool, but my pinky toes were not pleased.
Evening in Newport
We got back to the car, chugged water, and made our way to our hotel- thankfully it was only about 10 minutes away. Not in the mood to do much research I found the first bar with high reviews and we were off to downtown Newport. Parking was a little better, and we managed a free spot a few blocks away.
Dinner at Brick Alley

That was our day in a nutshell, a lot of views, fancy mansions, small cute roads, and pretty good food. Some parts reminded me a lot of up north towns, specifically Petoskey. Something about the small shops, expensive clothes, and being a little touristy. Now we are off to Boston!
Looks amazing ! So proud of you, can’t believe you went through that tunnel, or did Nick drag you haha. Iv heard of that Brick Alley but don’t remember who went there. Enjoy and keep posting, love reading your blog π₯°
