Since I enjoyed writing the blog for the mission trip I just returned from, I decided to write one for my own personal trip! Nick and I are taking on a few cities on the East Coast this week. Deciding on only a few was tough, but I’m sure we will be back to see more.
July 13th, 2019
We left our house in Canton this morning about an hour after our intended time. Turns out when your leaving for a trip and have to make sure your puppy, cat, and an entire house is good, it takes some time.
So we made our own coffee at home (ugh) and skipped our normal pre trip bagel run. We were quickly in Ohio (not pictured). As much as we always dread driving through the state we can’t deny how great the rest stops are. But when your state’s perk is rest stops.. well, I’ll leave it there.
Pennsylvania
Today is all about getting to our destination and covering as much ground as possible so we packed our lunches for a quick stop. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center did not disappoint.

Final Destination
We got to our hotel in Poughkeepsie/Fishkill, New York around 7pm and hastily picked a close restaurant because no one likes to be hangry.

Dinner
The Red Line Diner was the first option on google that looked “we’ve been in a car for 10 hours and look rough” worthy.

After dinner we were super full but the diner had a full bakery.. so… cheesecake. We weren’t completely savage though, we got it to go.
We didn’t get a picture of the chocolate mousse cheesecake because we ate in out hotel bed watching Fantastic Beasts on HBO. However, I can assure you it was delicious, and we are picky cheesecake eaters.
Walmart
We left the hotel around 8am this morning and pulled into the Walmart next door. I’ve recently made a strong connection with the place (Mission Trip people know what I mean) so I felt at home here. Nick needed some shorts so we grabbed a pair for $11 and were on our way!
Bagels
I’m starting to realize this is quickly becoming a food blog..
The hotel didn’t have free breakfast but good ole google assured us there was a “Bagel Shoppe” one mile away. It was super cute, cheap, and delicious.

The town of Fishkill (est. 1714) was small and historic so we were glad we were able to at least drive through it even if it was just for breakfast.
Up next -> our first real destination- Rhode Island!
Yay, so glad you decided to do this🙂 Love reading about your journey 🥰
